15 CE Credits for Licensed Psychoanalysts and Social Workers
This course presents psychoanalytic perspectives on the treatment of trauma. The reconstruction of object relations, an integration with intersubjectivity, and somatization are addressed in light of a redefinition of trauma. Various kinds of traumatic events are examined in terms of their roots in normal development and their role in the etiology of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, addictions, and eating disorders and their contribution to the formation of character structure and relationship style. Therapeutic approaches based on the instructor’s trauma-based listening perspective (SAO/TEND) will be emphasized.
Carl H. Shubs, PhD, is a psychologist in private practice in Beverly Hills, CA. He has written several books on trauma and its treatment, with a focus on his SAO/TEND psychoanalytic perspective, including Traumatic Experiences of Normal Development: An Intersubjective, Object Relations Listening Perspective on Self, Attachment, Trauma, and Reality (Routledge, 2020). He has also published several articles on the treatment of trauma.
