Master's Degree
Pre-Clinical Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies
The State of New York requires that applicants to a licensure-qualifying psychoanalytic training institute, such as CMPS, have a minimum of a master’s degree.
Our sister school, the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis–New York (formerly the New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis), is one of the few programs in the world to offer the Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies. Graduates of BGSP-NY who are accepted to continue their studies at CMPS qualify for advanced placement, which accelerates their progress toward psychoanalytic certification.
BGSP-NY offers:
- MA in Psychoanalytic Studies
- Personalized instruction in small, interactive classes geared toward helping students succeed
- A solid foundation in psychoanalytic theory
- Comprehensive preparation for psychoanalytic training for those who desire it
- Advanced placement for graduates who are accepted to the licensure-qualifying psychoanalytic training program of our sister school, the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies
- Insight into human motivation applicable in other fields
- Courses taught by practicing psychoanalysts who bring a clinical perspective to the theoretical material
- Evening classes to accommodate students' work schedules
- Full- and part-time options
BGSP-NY welcomes:
- Students who wish to complete clinical psychoanalytic training after receiving the master’s degree
- Students who do not aspire to become psychoanalysts but plan to utilize the knowledge acquired in the program in other fields
