Transgenerational trauma theory expands psychodynamic and unconscious exploration to include grandparents, great-grandparents, historic ancestry, and social phenomena. This workshop explores the concepts of trauma, transgenerational trauma, transgenerational trauma transmission, and modern psychoanalytic approaches to treating transgenerational trauma.
Presenter: Dr. Diane H. Tracey is a graduate of the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies (CMPS), where she currently serves on the faculty as a Research Committee member and sees patients at the CMPS Referral Service. Prior to pursuing a second career as a psychoanalyst, Dr. Tracey was Professor of Education for 25 years. She is author of Lenses on Reading: An Introduction to Theories and Models (2017) and Helping Your Child Overcome Reading Challenges (2022).
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to (1) define trauma from a psychoanalytic perspective, (2) define transgenerational trauma from a psychoanalytic perspective, (3) describe the mechanisms of transmission of transgenerational trauma, and (4) describe modern psychoanalytic approaches to treating transgenerational trauma.
