Systemic Re-Transmission of Trauma: Defending Against the Lost and Found (Online Presentation)

This case presentation will discuss the ongoing societal intrusions that emotionally handicapped the interracial therapeutic relationship of the psychoanalyst and the patient.  The treatment began in an institutionalized setting with the children, who were searching for their lost maternal object, and then the therapeutic work centered on the mother and her search to find the lost self.  The case illustrates various ways the human bond is disrupted by the intergenerational transmission of trauma and its impact on relational value.

Felecia Powell-Williams EdD, LPC-S, RPT-S, FABP,  is a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst who works with children, adolescents, and adults in private practice in Houston.  A graduate of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, Texas (CFPS). she is the past president of the CFPS Board of Directors and remains a faculty member in the Child and Adult Training Programs and is co-chair of the Child and Adolescent Training Program.  She serves on the APsA Board of Directors, DPE Diversities Section, and heads the APsA Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Department.  She is an active board member of Houston Psychoanalytic Society and PsiAN.
