The taboo on—as well as the inevitability of—sexual feelings in the treatment room has been an issue inpsychoanalysis since its inception, and the challenge of working with these feelingsis an integral part of its fabric. As much as understanding how to navigate feelings of erotic transference and countertransference is an essential part of the work, what lies beneath is often more difficult to reach, and frequently holds the key to deeper psychic conflicts. Through readings and case material this workshop will lay the groundwork for exploring the layers of sexualization in the erotic transference to gain insight into what might hide within.

Fredrika Stjärne, LP, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in New York.  She is a graduate of CMPS, where she is a fellow of the Consultation and Referral Service and a teaching assistant.
