New book acquisitions
Two interesting new books in the Library, new and old: Reading French Psychoanalysis (D. Birksted-Breen, S. Flanders, & A. Gibeault, eds.), Routledge, 2010. "How has psychoanalysis developed in France in the years since Lacan so dramatically polarized the field?... Seminal and representative papers have been chosen to illuminate what is special about French thinking." (from back cover) (Available to borrow at BF175/.R37/2010) The Why Report: A Book of 45 Interviews with Psychiatrists, Psychoanalysts, and Psychologists (L. Freeman & M. Theodores, eds.). Arthur Bernhard, 1964. Includes two interviews with Hyman Spotnitz: "Do people have the right to hate as well as to love?" and "Do accidents just happen to children?" (On Reserve shelves under F, to read in the Library)
Some recently added books ...
Recently added to the library: Kabbalah and Psychoanalysis (2012), by Michael Eigen (BF173/.E34/2012) From the Preface and Introduction: "I am not a Kabbalah scholar, but aspects of its teachings have become part of me, as has psychoanalytic work. The two have many points of convergence." The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness (2007), by Elyn R. Saks (RC464/.S25/A3/2007) From the book jacket: "It is the most lucid and hopeful memoir of living with schizophrenia I have ever read." (Oliver Sacks)

Reading PEP on Your Phone
A student has contributed a fantastic tip for viewing PEP on smartphones: if it's hard to read on your native browser, download Opera. Then within the Opera Settings, make sure to choose Single Column View, and the formatting should be much more manageable. Let me know how it works for you!
Access to Other NYC Libraries
If you need to look at a book or journal not held in our library, and are in a rush, I can often write you a one-day pass to most area libraries. To see who might have the item you want, check out: Worldcat which lets you search for a title, then enter your zip code to find libraries close to you. Please note that libraries have their own policies, so I'll double-check to make sure you can visit. Also, you won't be able to take materials out - for that, please talk to me about doing an interlibrary loan.
Our Library Catalog Now Online
If you got here through the new Library page on the CMPS website, you may have noticed that there's a link to our CMPS library catalog. It's now on the web and accessible from anywhere. Tip - to see if a book is available, look at the "Holdings" and "Available" notes. Holdings = copies we own, while Available = copies that should be on shelf.
