Cutting Through the Chaos: Understanding Couples Treatment via a Developmental Lens While Utilizing Modern Psychoanalytic Techniques
4 CE Credits for Social Workers and Psychologists
This workshop will introduce the developmental stages of a couple from the standpoint of attachment theory, illustrated with brief clinical vignettes, and will present some of the methods used to assess where the couple may be fixated. The focus will then shift to an exploration of how this knowledge may be used to formulate interventions designed to assist the partners in their growth as individuals while enhancing their ability for intimacy as a couple. Techniques such as joining, mirroring, and reflection will be described, and their use will be demonstrated throughout the workshop.
