Joining: More Than a Technique
FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2019 • 2:30 - 6:15 PM
SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2019 • 8:45 AM - 4:10 PM
Intensive Clinical Weekend
8.5 CE Credits for Licensed Psychoanalysts and Social Workers
Patients with narcissistic and personality disorders are often among the most difficult to treat, as they do not respond favorably to direct input from the analyst, such as interpretation. Joining is a modern psychoanalytic technique that is often successfully used with a broad spectrum of patients, including those in more regressed states: It protects the patient’s fragile ego, promotes maturation, and encourages the unfolding of the narcissistic transference. The weekend’s seminars will elucidate the theory and utilization of this technique, illustrating its use through abundant case material. Participants are encouraged to discuss their most challenging cases. The five component seminars of this intensive clinical weekend will incorporate both didactic and process learning. Readings will be made available to participants. A complimentary lunch will be provided on Saturday.
