The CMPS Distance Learning (DL) TWO-YEAR-PROGRAM (TYP) offers instruction in modern psychoanalytic theory to licensed mental health professionals, and professionals from other backgrounds outside the greater New York City area. Courses cover key modern analytic concepts, utilizing case presentations to illustrate how theory informs clinical technique.

This program consists of four courses:

- Maturation
- Transference and Resistance

- Countertransference
- Analytic Listening.

Classes are 10 weeks in length, and meet for 90 minutes.  Class readings are sent to registered students via a Dropbox link at no additional cost.

Two courses are offered each semester.  Whether to take one or two courses at a time, and the order in which they are taken, is up to the student.  Students are not required to take all four courses.  

Each of the four semester-long courses provides 15 New York State Education Department-approved CE credits to psychoanalysts, psychologists, and social workers who complete the course.  To receive CE credits, attendance at all classes and turning in weekly logs are required.

All DL classes are conducted via Zoom.  Most classes consist of students in various locations, but it is also possible, if a student has a group of people who are interested in meeting together, to arrange a class in which all participants Zoom in from the same location.

If a student successfully completes the program's four courses and desires further study, additional courses can be arranged.

The Distance Learning Program is part of the CMPS Continuing Education department and does not provide credit toward psychoanalytic certification or licensure. 

The fee for each semester-long course $550.
